A Proclamation of the City Council of the City of Placerville Declaring Placerville to be a Hate-Free and Discrimination-Free City
WHEREAS: History teaches us that when people stand by and allow acts of hatred and prejudice to occur, the Principles of Freedom established by our Founding Fathers are undermined; and
WHEREAS: In the past, there have been incidents in Placerville of hatred against various individuals and groups; and
WHEREAS: We reaffirm as a City Council, that Placerville is, and should remain, a City that welcomes all people and groups who are law-abiding and who respect the rights of all of our citizens; and
WHEREAS: The Placerville City Council and citizens of Placerville place the highest value on promoting a community that is supportive of those who do not seek to harm or condemn others; and
WHEREAS: The Placerville City Council, in keeping with the principle of equal rights for all, unequivocally opposes any manifestation of bigotry and prejudice towards any group or individuals.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Roberta Colvin, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Placerville, State of California, do hereby declare that the City of Placerville opposes any acts of bigotry and prejudice against any individuals and declares itself a hate-free and discrimination-free City.
